With 18 Grammy Awards to his name, a fashion line, a budding film career and a new (and highly publicized) relationship with Kim Kardashian, Kanye West shows no signs of slowing down.
With West’s GOOD Music compilation album Cruel Summer set to street on August 7, the music mogul apparently has his sights set on his next solo effort. Chicago producer and Def Jam EVP of A&R No I.D. told MTV that he has already begun working on West’s next release. “I’m not working on [Cruel Summer,]” No I.D. said. “I’m working on his album.”
Asked what fans can expect from West’s next solo project, No. I.D. said, “He hasn’t missed yet. It’s what you expect, and everything you don’t expect. It’s gonna be great.”
West’s last solo album, 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album (beating out his collaborative album with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne, released last summer) and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Fantasy marked West’s fourth consecutive U.S. No. 1 album.
West hit the stage with the rest of his GOOD Music team for the BET Awards on Sunday, July 1, to perform their single “Mercy.” West later debuted a new track, “New God Flow,” featuring Pusha T.
Speaking of West on the red carpet, Pusha T told The Hollywood Reporter, “he made probably one of my favorite songs ever, ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing.’ I go back to that time and watch him perform that record, and he watches me turn into a fan every time he does it.”
