Chicago rapper King Louie was reportedly shot in the head in the city’s southwestern Ashburn neighborhood on Wednesday, according to reports. He is alive and now recovering.
The Chicago Sun-Times broke the news with confirmation from Louie’s management. The newspaper reports Louie — who’s real name is Louis Johnson Jr. — was shot in his vehicle around 3:30 p.m. local time.
Billboard confirmed with Chicago Police that a 27-year-old male was shot in his vehicle at that location at that time and brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition. It is against Chicago police policy to disclose or confirm victims’ names.
A representative from Louie’s management team told the Chicago Sun-Times he was “awake and talking” following the incident.
Louie is credited for coining the term “Chi-Raq” in 2009, as well as creating the term “Drillinois,” which plays off the trap hip-hop sub-genre “Drill,” prevalent in Chicago rap and popularized by Chief Keef, Lil Reese and others. Earlier this month he released a song called “F— Spike Lee” on the same day the director’s Chi-Raq film premiered in theaters.
