Nearly one month since late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington was laid to rest, the singer’s ex-wife, Samantha Bennington, aired frustrations surrounding the event through an angry Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug 24).
In the long-winded message, Samantha calls the funeral a “disgusting delusional display,” arguing that organizers failed to highlight her ex-husband’s life outside the band. According to Samantha’s post, she was not given the opportunity to speak at the funeral, and there were few photos of her and Bennington’s son, Draven.
In her words, the entire affair “was more like checking into KROQ’s Weinie Roast Festival,” and the program looked “like a cheap happy hour menu.”
“It was a disgusting delusional display on all people who spoke at the funeral & their characters. Never mentioning a man who grew up from a little boy and loved many things, becoming a rock star was just one thing!” Samantha continues. “I’m so disgusted on so many levels! Their [sic] were many friends & family that should have been there but when you turn a funeral into reducing someone’s life into only 12 years that’s what you get!”
Samantha also appears to accuse Bennington’s widow, Talinda (who she refers to as “T”) of failing to invite her and Draven to the funeral’s “after bowling celebration.”
“We haven’t had the opportunity to honor his dad properly for his lifetime, & the lack of respect & honesty is just disgusting!” Samantha writes. “We do not have a place to go or even any of his ashes!”
A private funeral service was held for Bennington in Palos Verdes, California on July 29, where an estimated 200 friends and family members paid their respects to the beloved singer.
