Her Madgesty may be 53 years young, but there are still plenty of firsts left for the Queen of Pop.
Madonna has been making the rounds the past few weeks, promoting her new studio album, MDNA, releasing several singles such as “Girl Gone Wild” and “I Don’t Give A,” and launching her first fragrance, Truth or Dare.
But Saturday night Madonna had another first: surprising Miami festival goers at Ultra Music Fest by appearing onstage.
Ultra Music Fest attracted the biggest names in dance music to Miami this weekend, including David Guetta, Afrojack and Kaskade. But Madonna was by far the biggest name. She joined Swedish DJ-producer Avicii onstage to debut his remix of her new track “Girl Gone Wild.” (Watch the video below.)
“I’ve been here [Ultra Fest] in spirit for many years, but it’s good to finally be standing on the stage, looking at all you people who have come here from all around the world,” she said before introducing Avicii. “In my world the words ‘music’ and ‘dance’ are not separated. Electronic music has been a part of my life since the beginning of my career. I can honestly say that a DJ saved my life.”
Madonna then cracked a joke about ecstasy. “Who has seen Molly?” she quipped to the crowd of 165,000. Molly is a reference to the pill, whose chemical name is MDMA, which Madge used as source material for her drug-nodding new album title, MDNA.
Word out of Miami, according to Fuse.tv, says Madonna rolled up to the festival in a three-car motorcade, led by a police car. After her one song onstage, she posed for a pic backstage with super star DJs like David Guetta, then her entourage loaded into their cars.
