Madonna closed Eurovision 2019 with a live show that included her classic “Like a Prayer” and her new single “Future” with Quavo. With her performance came a subtle political statement as two of her dancers walked hand in hand wearing costumes with the Israeli and Palestinian flags on their backs, seemingly symbolizing a call for unity between the two countries.
“Wake up,” Madonna said in a stage whisper as the Madame X track came to an end. The words “wake up” were also displayed on a large screen behind her and Quavo.
Before her set, which aired live from this year’s Grand Final of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Madonna took part in a short interview, saying: “Everybody here is from all over the world, right? So many countries that I have been privileged enough to visit and experience, and the one thing that brings me to those countries, and the thing that brings all of these people here tonight, is music. So let’s never underestimate the power of music to bring people together.”
