Katy Perry stopped her intimate London concert on Thursday night to honor the 22 killed and 59 injured in this week’s terror attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England.
The performer started on the subject by telling the 200-person capacity Water Rats venue how hard this week has been. “It was hard for you guys, I know that, it was hard for me, because we all love music,” said Perry. “We’re all listening to the same music. And you think about it and you think, ‘That’s my friend, that’s my sister, that’s my brother, that’s my cousin, that’s the person that loves music.’ It’s awful, it’s awful. It’s awful.”
The pop star continued, “And whatever you can do to help, you should. If you can’t do anything, that’s fine. But what you should do is not let them win. … They can never take that part away from us ever, ever.”
Perry’s words of defiance received cheers from the audience, and she proceeded to lead a moment of silence.
