Mary J. Blige will receive the Icon award and Grace VanderWaal will be honored with the Rising Star award at Billboard‘s annual Women in Music ceremony, it was announced Thursday.
Blige, an R&B legend, and VanderWaal, who made a name for herself as a winner on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, will be recognized at the Los Angeles event at the Ray Dolby Ballroom on Nov. 30.
The industry’s most powerful artists and executives are honored each year at the Women in Music awards ceremony and in Billboard‘s Women in Music issue.
Selena Gomez has been named Billboard‘s Woman of the Year for 2017. Kelly Clarkson, Camila Cabello and Kehlani are also set to receive honors. Performers at this year’s Women in Music event include Clarkson, Cabello, Kehlani and VanderWaal.
“The Billboard Women in Music event was created to spotlight female trailblazers in the music industry,” Dana Miller, chief marketing officer of The Hollywood Reporter – Billboard Media Group, said in a statement. “Whether entertaining sold-out crowds or signing the next big artist, the women we celebrate are powerful leaders and pioneers, creating inspirational legacies and opening doors.”
The Women in Music red carpet preshow and awards ceremony are scheduled to live-stream via Twitter on Nov. 30 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. PT.
