GettyMetallica frontman James Hetfield has released a new video he hopes will help catch a killer.
In the video, Hetfield reaches out to the public, urging them contact authorities with “any information, no matter how small you might think it is,” in the case of Morgan Harrington, a young woman last seen alive outside one of the band’s concerts.
Harrington, a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student, attended Metallica’s October 17, 2009 performance at the John Paul Jones Arena, located on the campus of University of Virginia. She left the concert and was unable to re-enter the venue and was last seen attempting to hitchhike.
Her skeletal remains were discovered January 26, 2010 on an isolated Virginia farm in Albemarle County. In the video, Hetfield says authorities have linked the crime to an assault on another woman in Virginia.
Metallica has offered a $50,000 reward, in addition to the Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers’ $100,000 reward, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Harrington’s murder. The video includes an FBI sketch of a person of interest in the case.
