Mika El-Baz is on the move at RCA Records. The record label announced Tuesday that El-Baz will be relocating from New York City to Los Angeles to head up its West Coast office. She’ll take on the new position of executive vp West Coast while continuing her duties as executive vp publicity, the label said.
In her expanded role, El-Baz will be in charge of exploring new opportunities for the label and its roster, as well as overseeing media campaigns and artist development. She’ll continue to report to president/COO Tom Corson, who praised El-Baz’s “creativity, tenacity and drive” in a statement announcing the promotion.
El-Baz, a two-time Billboard Women in Music honoree, joined RCA in 2004 as senior vp publicity and has held her current position since 2010. Prior to that she held senior positions at Interscope Geffen A&M and Island Records.
While at RCA, El-Baz has played a significant role in the success of stars including Justin Timberlake, Sia, Miley Cyrus, Miguel, Kelly Clarkson, A$AP Rocky, Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, Kesha, Kings of Leon, Usher, Pitbull and Pink. One of her most recent breakthrough artists, the Canadian band MAGIC!, has spent several weeks atop the Hot 100.
“I have to thank Tom Corson and [RCA CEO] Peter Edge for their total support and guidance in this next chapter of my career at RCA,” El-Baz said. “It is a great pleasure to work alongside such a dynamic and excellent executive team at such an incredible time for the label. I am thrilled to be a part of what’s up ahead for RCA and our artists.”
