Miley Cyrus Breaks Silence on VMA Performance: ‘I Don’t Pay Attention to the Negative’ (Video)

Miley Cyrus is finally addressing her racy performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

The pop star says she was out to make history with her surreal, grinding-filled rendition of “We Can’t Stop” and “Blurred Lines,” but she isn’t thinking about the negative reaction to it, saying that her critics are putting more thought into her twerking than she did.

“I don’t pay attention to the negative,” Cyrus says in a brief clip from documentary footage provided to MTV News.

“Madonna‘s done it, Britney‘s done it. Every VMA performance, anyone that performs, that’s what you’re looking for — you’re wanting to make history. Me and Robin [Thicke] the whole time said, ‘You know we’re about to make history right now,'” the pop star adds.

Cyrus was also amazed that people were still talking about her performance days later.

“They’re overthinking it,” she says. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. I didn’t even think about it, ’cause that’s just me.”

Cyrus’ VMA performance sparked reactions ranging from outraged to supportive and garnered more than 306,000 tweets per minute during the East Coast airing of the show, which was blasted by the Parents Television Council for serving sex to teens.
