For the first time in the history of the event, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will perform on the stage of the MTV EMAs. Airing live from Milan’s Mediolanum Forum on Sunday, Bocelli will perform a solo track as well as a duet with singer-songwriter Tori Kelly.
“I’m pleased and excited to perform at a location and event that is unexpected for me, and to share the overwhelming and contagious energy of so many young people from all around the world,” said Bocelli. “I will be preparing a nice surprise from outside of my usual repertoire together with the beautiful and talented rising star Tori Kelly.”
His performance will come on the heels of the release of his album Cinema on Friday from Sugar Music/Universal Music Group. Bocelli, with over 85 million albums sold worldwide, is the most successful classical musician of all time.
This year’s event is hosted by Ed Sheeran and OITNB star Ruby Rose. Bocelli joins a star-studded lineup of performers that also includes Pharrell Williams, Sheeran & Rudimental, Ellie Goulding, Jason Derulo, Fifth Harmony, twenty one pilots, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, James Bay, Jess Glynne and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
The evening before the awards, Duran Duran will perform a special show at the iconic Piazza Duomo as part of the festivities.
Voting across categories ends Saturday at midnight on mtvema.com.
