Paul McCartney, Mumford & Sons, Tom Petty to Headline Bonnaroo 2013

Paul McCartney, album of the year Grammy winners Mumford & Sons and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will headline this year’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival held June 13-16 in Manchester, Tenn. Also joining the bill is Icelandic singer Bjork.

Announced in a live webcast hosted by “Weird” Al Yankovic — also performing at this year’s festival — the headliners confirm rumors that have been circulating for weeks, fueled in part by a series of “Rooclues” released by the multistage festival’s organizers.

Mumford & Sons played Bonnaroo in 2010 and 2011, and Petty headlined in 2006.

Also appearing on the bill are alt-country pioneers Wilco, moody Britpop outfit The xx, art-rock collaborators David Byrne and St. Vincent, and electronic acts such as Passion Pit, Boys Noize and Pretty Lights. Vancouver-based duo Japandroids also will perform.

Folk rockers The Lumineers, enjoying the heightened visibility of a recent Grammys performance, also are booked for the fest, as are a slew of indie-rock stalwarts including Grizzly Bear, Beach House, Cat Power and Tame Impala. My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James will perform material from his new solo release, Regions of Light and Sound of God.

For nostalgia lovers, bearded blues maestros ZZ Top and platinum-blond rocker Billy Idol will be playing Bonnaroo. On the hip-hop front, there’s nothing on the level of Jay-Z‘s headlining performance in 2010, but Wu-Tang Clan — also slated for two shows at Coachella in April — are on the bill, as are Nas, R. Kelly and Kendrick Lamar.

Produced by Superfly Presents and AC Entertainment, the festival, now in its eleventh year, will be held at Great Stage Park, a 700-acre farm-turned-outdoor event space.
