Man of all trades Pharrell Williams is slated to perform at the 2015 MTV EMAs, set to be held on Oct. 25 at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan. The singer, songwriter, producer and fashion designer has been revealed as the first performer of the evening, which will be hosted by Ed Sheeran and Ruby Rose, riding high off of her Orange Is the New Black guest role.
Voting for the night’s awards is now open on MTVEMA.com. The nominees for best U.S. act are Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas and Taylor Swift. Best female nominees this year are Ellie Goulding, Miley Cyrus, Minaj, Rihanna and Swift.
Williams will be vying for the best male prize among fellow nominees Sheeran, Jason Derulo, Kanye West and Justin Bieber (who took home the prize last year).
Williams is also up for best video with “Freedom,” competing against Lamar for “Alright,” Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for “Downtown,” Sia for “Elastic Heart” and Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar for “Bad Blood,” which also won video of the year at the MTV Video Music Awards this year.
Swift already wins for most nominees of the night, with nine in total.
In 2014, Ariana Grande was the big winner of the evening, taking home awards for best female and best song, which she shared with Iggy Azalea for “Problem.”
The first Europe Music Awards ceremony was held in Berlin in 1994.
