Pia Toscano, who shocked American Idol judges and fans when she was eliminated last week, isn’t sobbing over her surprise ousting.
“I feel like it was a blessing in disguise, that has prepared me for this moment,” she said Monday on Live! With Regis and Kelly. “It’s been such a whirlwind.”
Toscano, who belted out a cover of Stevie Wonder‘s “All in Love is Fair” on the show, added that she had no idea why she got voted off.
“You never really know. I really don’t know what happened,” she said. “I’m just thankful for the experience.”
American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe wasn’t surprised she was given the boot.
He told Yahoo! Music‘s Reality Rocks over the weekend: “I know the [voting] results, so I know
she was never a frontrunner … The fact of the matter is that it appears that Pia didn’t connect with the audience as much as we maybe think she did. And she wasn’t voted through.”
In another interview, she tells
Entertainment Tonight, “I never expected getting cut from the show [that] I would have this much support … and I’m so thankful for it. I was in a bubble, an
American Idol bubble the whole time; very focused on my songs, I would never really go out – we didn’t ever have that much time.”
