Music publisher, management and music services company Pulse Recording and Fujipacific Music (West) have joined together to form Pulse Music Publishing, a partnership between that will encompass Pulse’s existing music publishing catalog and future acquisitions. Fujipacific will provide Pulse with a multi-million dollar capital fund to drive future growth and expand its music-publishing roster, as well as augment its creative services to its client base of established artists, songwriters, and producers.
Pulse Recording is a music company founded and operated by songwriters and producers — writer/producer Josh Abraham [Pink, 30 Seconds to Mars, Shakira] with writer/producers Scott Cutler and Anne Preven [Madonna, Béyonce, Katy Perry]. Since its inception, Pulse has grown from a small start-up to a home to more than 40 of today’s top songwriters, producers and artists, including hitmakers Bonnie McKee [Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Cher, Kesha], Tim Pagnotta [Neon Trees], OLIVER [Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera], Tony Maserati [Béyonce, Pink, Lady Gaga, Robin Thicke], and Luke Laird (Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood]. The catalog of writing and production work by Pulse clients has accounted for sales of more than 75 million units worldwide.

Fujipacific Music (West) operates as a division of Fujipacific Music, Inc., a subsidiary of Fuji Media Holdings, Inc., a certified broadcast holding company in Japan that operates Fuji TV (the country’s largest independent network), Nippon Broadcasting (the largest independent radio network), the Sankei Shinbun newspaper empire, Pony Canyon Records and a variety of other subsidiaries in the media and entertainment fields. Fujipacific Music, Inc., Japan’s largest independent music publishing company, represents a wide variety of domestic and international catalogs for Japan (including EMI Music and BMG Publishing) and was one of the founding partners in Windswept.
Commented Pulse co-ceo Cutler: “I have always admired the business model that Fujipacific and Windswept created when they first combined forces years ago, and we wanted the next phase of Pulse to be built around that same model. The most important aspect of this partnership is the satisfaction of working with people who understand music publishing. Pulse sees this as more than just an investment opportunity; it’s a true partnership with a music industry icon. I’m very honored and excited to be working with Ichi [Asatsuma] and his entire team at Fujipacific Music.”
Asatsuma, chairman of Fujipacific Music added, “We have been looking for the chance to establish a creative partnership in the U.S. and I feel that Scott, Josh, and Anne are definitely the right people to help us realize our goal and dream of creating that partnership. They are not only talented in their own right as songwriters and producers but are also great mentors to their clients. What I most admire and respect is their foresight and vision, and how they’ve built Pulse into the vibrant and successful company it has become in such a short amount of time. I am very happy that they chose us to be their partners and I look forward to an exciting adventure with them. I would also like to thank Fuji Media Holdings and Evan Medow for making this partnership possible.”

As part of their future plans, Pulse has established Pulse Publishing Administration, a joint venture with Mary Jo Mennella‘s Music Asset Management, to administer and manage the Pulse Music Publishing catalog. Joe Rangel oversees Pulse’s Film and Television division. Evan Medow, former president/ceo of Windswept Pacific, advised Fujipacific and will continue on as a consultant to Pulse.
