TORONTO — Randy Quaid’s “Star Whackers” song will be available for download on iTunes and other online music stores starting May 3, his indie label said Thursday.
Maximum Music Group said Quaid and his wife, Evi Quaid, “will focus on the recording, distribution and marketing of a series of songs written and recorded by Randy Quaid and his band, the Fugitives.”
John Shewfelt produced the first two singles — “Star Whackers” and the romantic ballad “Will We Be Together Then?” — with engineer Mike Rogerson doing the mixing and mastering.
Shewfelt is also a drummer in the Fugitives, which includes Mark Hopkinson and Bruce Green on guitar and Rich Johnson on bass.

Maximum Music in a statement said Randy Quaid, best known as a movie actor and more recently escaping to Canada to avoid apparent Hollywood assassins, also has a lifelong passion for music.
“He (Randy Quaid) began performing as a singer-songwriter before his acting career took off, he and wife, creative partner Evi started playing and writing music together as a way to express their love and frustration,” the label said.
“Finding relief in telling the truth through song, Randy and Evi kept putting pen to paper, often writing down simple ideas and verses that would later become finished compositions,” the label continued.
Maximum Music will eventually record a series of songs to become part of an album to be released later this year internationally by EMI.
The Quaids, keeping busy in Canada, also recorded the “Star Whackers” song ahead of the debut of their docu-drama on April 22 in Vancouver.
Randy Quaid has been given permission to stay in Canada because Evi Quaid received her Canadian citizenship card in February because her father was born here.
