Scott Greer, an 18-year veteran of Sony Music, who most recently worked as svp marketing for Columbia Records, has been named executive vice president of Capitol Music Group, the company announced today.
Greer began his career at Capitol Records in 1991, working with the Beastie Boys and their Grand Royal imprint, as well as with Foo Fighters and Frank Sinatra. More recently, Greer has been involved with such high-profile record releases as Adele‘s 21, Beyonce‘s self-titled, out-of-nowhere full-length last December, the Grammy-winning surprise Random Access Memories from Daft Punk, and Pharrell Willliams‘s Girl and smash single “Happy.”
“I am truly excited to be reuniting with [Capitol Music Group chairman and CEO] Steve [Barnett], who has been a mentor to me throughout my career, as well as returning to the company where I began my professional life in the early ’90s,” Greer said in a statement. “What Steve and his team have accomplished in such a short span of time is the talk of the industry and the artist community, and CMG’s revitalization is still only in its early stages. I look forward to contributing to the company’s growth and helping its impressive roster of new and established artists achieve success in the years to come.”
Greer will oversee Capitol’s work in New York, as well as marketing campaigns for signature Capitol artists across the group’s top-line labels, including Virgin and Motown. He will also work with his fellow evp at the group, Michelle Jubelirer, to oversee its Harvest, Blue Note and Astralwerks labels and the company’s independent services division, Caroline.
“Modern music companies need a strong team of executives working together to stay on course and achieve consistent success, and Scott is a tremendous addition to our already formidable team,” said Barnett. “Having worked with him at both Columbia and Epic for many years on highly successful projects, I am thrilled that he is bringing his strong leadership abilities to our New York operations.”
Jubelirer added: “Scott is a great out-of-the-box strategist whose innovative campaigns for a wide array of artists have long been admired throughout the industry.”
