COLOGNE, Germany – Thomas Hesse, president of Global Digital Business at Sony Music Entertainment, will move back to German media giant Bertelsmann, taking a position on Bertelsmann’s supervisory board as of Feb.1 next year. Hesse has held several positions at Bertelsmann subsidiaries RTL Television and BMG Entertainment. He joined Sony in 2004 after BMG’s merger with Sony Music, taking over the label’s global digital business.
Back at Bertelsmann, Hesse’s job will be to oversee the digital transformation of the group’s core businesses, which include pan-European broadcaster RTL Group, book publisher Random House and magazine group Gruner + Jahr. He will oversee the company’s venture capital divisions Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments and Bertelsmann Asia Investments as well as Bertelsmann’s holding in the BMG music rights company.
