Summer Album Guide: The Weeknd, Carly Rae Jepsen, Luke Bryan Highlight August Releases

As summer nears an end, THR rounds up all of the new music to look forward to during the month of August.

WEEK OF AUGUST 7

Luke Bryan — Kill the Lights

The country singer’s fifth studio album will feature lead single “Kick the Dust Up” (pre-released on May 19) alongside twelve new tracks. The album comes two years after the release of 2013’s Crash My Party.

TobyMac — This Is Not a Test

The Christian rapper’s new record will include pre-released tracks such as “Backseat Driver,” “Til The Day I Die” and “Feel It.” This Is Not a Test is the sixth studio album from TobyMac and the title of the artist’s upcoming fall tour, scheduled to kick of Oct. 1.

Jess Glynne — I Cry When I Laugh

Glynne shot to fame when she featured on Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be,” and on Aug. 7, the British singer will be releasing her own debut studio album. I Cry When I Laugh will feature singles “Right Here,” “Real Love” (another collaboration with Clean Bandit) and “Hold My Hand.”

Grace Potter — Midnight

After serving as frontwoman of rock band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals for more than a decade, Potter will try her hand as a solo artist with the release of her debut studio album on Aug. 14. The singer-songwriter opened for the Rolling Stones on two dates of their Zip Code tour this past June.

Carly Rae Jepsen — E•MO•TION

Following the success of 2011’s “Call Me Maybe,” Jepsen’s highly anticipated third studio album will hit stores this month. Emotion includes pre-released singles “All That” and “I Really Like You” (the music video for which starred Tom Hanks and Justin Bieber).

Rob Thomas — The Great Unknown

Matchbox Twenty’s lead singer is scheduled to drop his third solo album six years after the release of 2009’s Cradlesong. The Great Unknown will feature thirteen tracks, including lead single “Trust You.”

The Weeknd — Beauty Behind the Madness

Beauty Behind the Madness will be the second album release from the R&B singer, whose pre-released singles “The Hills” and “Can’t Feel My Face” have both met chart success. The Weeknd’s earlier hit “Earned It” (off of the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack) peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Young Thug — Hy!£UN35

Young Thug is set to drop his debut studio album Hy!£UN35 (which stands for HiTunes) four months after the well-received release of his mixtape Barter 6. The rapper rose to popularity for his collaborations with artists like Rae Sremmurd, T.I., Birdman and Waka Flocka Flame.
