Taylor Swift is back to being inspired by her past relationships with “Out of the Woods,” out on iTunes Tuesday.
The second single off her upcoming album, 1989, accomplishes her personal goal in that it “sounded exactly the way that the emotions felt when I felt them.”
“This song is about the fragility and breakable nature of some relationships — this was a relationship where I was living day-to-day, wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere, if it was going to end the next day,” she explained in a Good Morning America preview. “It was a relationship where you never feel like you’re standing on solid ground. That kind of a feeling brings on excitement but also extreme anxiety and a frantic feeling of wondering, endless questions. And this song sounds exactly like that frantic feeling of anxiety and questioning.”
She continued of the track co-written with fun.’s Jack Antonoff, “Even if a relationship is breakable and fragile and full of anxiety, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t worthwhile, exciting, beautiful and all the things that we look for.”
