Universal Music Group Donating $500,000 to Manchester Victims

Universal Music Group is giving $500,000 to the victims of the terrorist attack that took place last week at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, killing 22 people and injuring more than 100.

Grande, who is signed to Universal’s Republic Records label, is planning to return to the stage Sunday night for a benefit show along with other artists, including Universal’s Justin Bieber and Katy Perry. The proceeds from the One Love Manchester show will go to an emergency fund set up by the Red Cross and the city of Manchester to support the victims and their families.

“The Universal Music Group global family is proud to stand with Ariana Grande and its other performing artists in their support for the victims and families affected by the Manchester attack with a combined donation of $500,000 to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund,” the record company said in a statement.

Many of the headlining artists are making their own donations as well, as are a range of other companies, including Warner Music Group, sources tell Billboard.

Envisioned by Grande and her team, the benefit is slated for June 4 at the cricket stadium at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester and will be produced by Live Nation subsidiary Festival Republic and Simon Moran’s SJM Concerts.

The concert — Grande’s first appearance since the attack — will be broadcast on ABC, BBC TV, BBC Radio and Capital Radio Network and live-streamed on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
