Getty ImagesCraig Nicholls, singer of Australian rock band The Vines, was arrested on Oct. 13 at his parents’ house in Sydney.
According to reports from down under, the 35-year-old went into a violent rage and assaulted his parents, allegedly punching his mother in the head twice. Police were called to the house in Sydney’s Connells Point and forced to use pepper spray to subdue the rocker, who was later charged with five counts of domestic battery. He is due to appear in court on Wednesday.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that a police officer was also injured during the altercation.
Nicholls’ has a long history of erratic behavior and outbursts. After his band scored two U.S. hits in the early 2000s, 2002’s “Get Free” and 2004’s “Ride,” the latter of which was used in TV commercials for such brands as Nissan and Apple’s iPod, Nicholls’ had several violent episodes that precluded further promotion of The Vines’ music. In 2002, the singer trashed the sets of late night TV staples Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He was barred from performing on Leno that same night.

The band’s manager revealed in 2004 that Nicholls was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome.
The Vines’ debut album, 2002’s Highly Evolved, reached No. 11 on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum for sales in Australia.
