Whitney Houston’s legacy lives on through the countless pop culture references to her name and work. In Lionsgate’s 2000 thriller American Psycho, the iconic singer is idolized by Christian Bale’s creepy, serial killer character.

The brief clip has received renewed attention since news of Houston’s death broke, with various blogs and publications making note of the creepy tribute. At the time of publication, the clip had garnered approximately 25,000 hits.
“Did you know that Whitney Houston’s debut LP, called simply Whitney Houston, had four No. 1 singles on it?” says Bale’s Patrick Bateman, as he watches two young ladies getting intimate on the couch.

“It’s hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks. But ‘The Greatest Love of All’ is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation and dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it’s not too late to better ourselves,” he continues. “Since, Elizabeth, it’s impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It’s an important message. Crucial, really. And it’s beautifully stated on the album.”
