As an investigation surrounding Whitney Houston‘s death unfolds, authorities are planning to subpeona doctors and pharmacies to determine whether prescription drugs were involved, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Citing sources, the paper said the subpeonas would be issued this week as part of a standard routine to find out if the medication was dispensed correctly — and possibly overprescribed.
Houston, 48, was found dead on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton, “underwater and apparently unconscious” in the bathtub of her hotel room on the fourth floor, police said, ruling out foul play.

Inside the room, according to an earlier TMZ report: multiple bottles of prescription medication containing a small amount of pills including Xanax and amoxicillin for a sore throat. An autopsy was completed on Sunday but the results are being withheld pending a toxicology report.
Houston was flown to her home city of Newark, N.J., on Monday night; a funeral is set for Saturday in the church where she sang as a child.
