Whitney Houston’s Mom Blasts Lifetime Biopic: ‘Let Her Rest’

Whitney Houston‘s mom, Cissy Houston, has come out firmly against the planned Lifetime biopic about her daughter, releasing a scathing statement to Entertainment Tonight.

“Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie about Whitney in spite of my family’s objections,” the statement reads. “No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby [Brown]. In the two years since Whitney’s death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie about her done by folks who didn’t know her. We are exhausted by the continuing misinformation and comments offered by people who did not know her. Please please let her rest.”

The most surprising part about the statement is that actress Angela Bassett, who is set to direct the biopic, definitely knew Houston, co-starring with her in the 1995 film Waiting to Exhale. So did Deborah Cox — who duetted with Houston on the 2000 track “Same Script, Different Cast” — and she’ll be taking over vocals since Lifetime couldn’t secure the rights to the late singer’s catalog.

Aaliyah‘s family has also taken issue with a planned Lifetime biopic about the “Are You That Somebody” singer, even threatening legal action if the made-for-TV movie goes forward.
