Ever since he performed “Home” on the season 11 finale of American Idol, Phillip Phillips‘ coronation song has grown into a radio smash, been used as the theme song of the Olympic Women’s Gymnastics team, featured in a movie trailer for the new Clint Eastwood film and as an instrumental in a commercial for insurance.

Bringing it down to the local level, Phillips was also honored by the PS22 Children’s chorus in New York City, who covered “Home” just last month. The choir previously worked with Idol winners David Cook and Carrie Underwood.
So what is it about “Home” that is resonating with so many people? The Hollywood Reporter asked Interscope head Jimmy Iovine, who said the composition — co-written by Drew Pearson and Greg Holden — came along “at the right moment.”
“I heard that song for him and I just said, ‘Wow, this is really gonna work if you’ll do it.’ Now it looks like it’s heading to top five and could be going all around the world,” he says. “But that’s the promise of the show, see?”

In fact, As far as Iovine is concerned, scoring a hit by an Idol winner should be par for the course. “We’ve done it two years in a row,” he boasts, referring to the success of season 10’s Scotty McCreery and Phillips. “We’re gonna try to get three for three.”
