Mussolini film is casting

ROME -- Casting has begun for "Vincere" (Win), Marco Bellocchio's film about the illegitimate son of Benito Mussolini, with popular Italian actor Filippo Timi to play the role of the Fascist dictator and David di Donatello nominee Antonio Albanese in a supporting role.

The role of Mussolini's son, Benito Albino Mussolini, has yet to be cast and has been the subject of speculation in the Italian media.

The hotly awaited film from five-time Palme d'Or nominee Bellocchio will start filming this month and is expected to hit cinemas by the end of the year.

Mussolini's life is a controversial topic for a film in Italy, where the leader is demonized in some circles and praised as a great statesman in others.

Bellocchio wrote the film's script and will direct the project, which is based in part on information from two books, both from Italian journalist and historian Marco Zeni: "L'Ultimo Filo" (The Last Thread) and "La Moglie di Mussolini" (Mussolini's Wife).
