Names ring 'Melrose' bell

The CW's "Melrose Place" is staying close to the original Fox series with its latest castings.

Original "Melrose" cast member Laura Leighton has been tapped to appear on the CW pilot as a recurring, reprising her role as the scheming Sydney Andrews.

Meanwhile, Shaun Sipos has snagged the last regular role on the pilot that also links the new project to the 1990s series. He will play David Patterson, son of Jake Hansen (Grant Show), a bad boy who grew up rich but has been cut off from his family's money.

Leighton's two-episode stint on Fox's "Melrose" in 1993 was her first acting gig; it led to a full job on the series for four years. Her casting on the CW's "Melrose" is reminiscent of the CW's tapping of "Beverly Hills, 90210" alumna Jennie Garth to reprise her role on the new "90210."

Leighton, who next appears in Hallmark Channel's movie "The View From Here," is repped by APA and Untitled.

Sipos' credits include "Maybe It's Me" and "Shark." (partialdiff)
