'Narnia' to Premiere in India before U.S.


"Dawn Treader" Set to Become Widest-Ever Hollywood Release in India

NEW DELHI -- Fox Star Studios India will release The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader on December 3, a week ahead of its U.S. release, making this the second Hollywood film after 2008's James Bond outing Quantum of Solace to open here first.

In addition, FSSI will give Narnia the biggest release for a Hollywood film to date, with over 800 prints including dubbed versions in Hindi and regional languages and 3D versions as well. The previous Hollywood release with the highest number prints was last year's 2012, which opened with 766 prints and collected over $20 million.

According to figures from FSSI, the Narnia films feature in the top five Hollywood franchises released in India, with the previous installment Prince Caspian collecting 270 million rupees ($6 million), putting it among the top 10 highest-grossing Hollywood films in India of all time.

The Chronicles of Narnia books have sold over 150,000 copies in India, along with over 100,000 DVD units, with the first release The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe becoming the top-selling DVD of 2006.
