Four channels approved by broadcasting ministry

HONG KONG -- Four National Geographic specialty channels are among 22 networks given the green light by the new-look Information and Broadcasting ministry in India.
Promoted by Fox Channels (India), the quartet comprises National Geographic HD Channel, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Adventure, and Nat Geo Music.

Fox Channels was unable to say when transmissions would begin.

The ministry is understood to have approved all the pending channel applications which met its license criteria.

The TV18 group, which has links with Viacom and Monday revealed 2008-09 losses of $34.3 million, also received the go-ahead for three; CNBC-TV18 South, CNBC-TV18 Gujarat and CNBC-TV18 Channel 3.
