NATO elects Mitchell as next chairman


The National Association of Theatre Owners has elected Cinemark USA CEO Lee Roy Mitchell as its next chairman of its board of directors. Elected unanimously at NATO's board meeting last week, Mitchell will begin a two-year term Jan. 1, and succeeds outgoing NATO chairman Phil Harris.

The NATO board also elected as its new vice chairman Peter C. Brown, chairman and CEO of Kansas City, Mo.-based AMC Entertainment Inc. Mark O'Meara, owner-operator of Fairfax, Va.-based University Mall Theatres, was elected to a second term as NATO's board secretary; Dan Harkins, CEO of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Harkins Theatres, was elected the association's new treasurer.

Mitchell founded Cinemark, the third-largest U.S. theater chain, in 1987 and since its inception has served as its CEO and chairman of the board. A member of the board of directors and executive committee of NATO for more than 20 years, Mitchell also serves on numerous corporate, charitable and nonprofit boards of directors.
