NBA All-Star Game not stellar in the ratings

NEW YORK -- Sunday's NBA All-Star Game showed a mix bag in the ratings, dropping in overall viewership while giving TNT a boost in key male demos.

The game averaged 6.3 million viewers, according to preliminary estimates released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. That's down 7% from last year's 6.8 million viewers. But it was up in several key demos, including men 18-34 (up 20% to 1.5 million viewers) and men 18-49 (up 5% to 2.4 million viewers). It was the best men 18-34 demo ratings since 2005's All-Star Game, the network said.

The All-Star Saturday Night turned in the most-viewed event in the 23 years since the NBA has been doing them, averaging 5.2 million viewers. That's up 7% compared to a year ago while men 18-34 and men 18-49 -- as well as adults 18-34 and adults 18-49 -- were all up double-digits.
