NBC outgrows its 30 Rock offices

NBC Universal said Wednesday that it will revamp its operations in Manhattan by 2009, keeping several units at 30 Rockefeller Center but moving the rest to a new facility.

NBC said it wouldn't be leaving 30 Rock. Its iconic headquarters will continue to be the home of NBC Sports, NBC News, "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" and "Saturday Night Live." But the company said it had outgrown the existing space for its other operations.

The new facility, which will be a new building or an existing one remodeled, will have 2,000-3,000 employees. It's likely NBC will give up significant space at 30 Rock. The new facility, which will be environmentally sound, also will have a conference center, fitness center, commissary and a childcare and health center. Still to be worked out is whether NBC Uni CEO Jeff Zucker's office will be in the new building or at 30 Rock. (partialdiff)
