NBC shifts sales pitchers

Gambelli upped to unit president

NEW YORK -- NBC Universal has revamped its sales structure, naming Marianne Gambelli president of NBC Network ad sales amid other appointments.

Gambelli has responsibility for sales for NBC's entertainment, news, sports and Olympics and will oversee regional offices as well. The former executive vp sales and marketing at NBC Uni will report to Mike Pilot, president of NBC Uni sales and marketing.

Pilot, who moved from General Electric nine months ago to lead NBC Uni ad sales, praised Gambelli's work before, during and after the transition, saying that she has "stepped up big."

"This is an executive who is, as you know, one of the most trusted, most respected, most experienced executives in the industry," Pilot said Thursday.

Gambelli, along with digital ad sales chief Peter Naylor and a soon-to-be named executive in charge of sales for the cable entertainment network division, will report to Pilot.

"This really was in response to client demand and market dynamics," Pilot said. "Our clients are continuing to ask us to be more nimble, more flexible in presenting our assets."

Other personnel moves involving the sales department include the appointment of Debbie Reichig as senior vp market development and John Sabino as senior vp commercial excellence.

For the past six months, Reichig has been senior vp market development at the NBC Uni Integrated Media unit. She now will be responsible for strategic marketing and work on innovations in ad research.

Sabino had been vp strategic initiatives at NBC Uni and now will work on improving selling processes.
