NBC Uni launches Chiller site


NBC Universal will launch an online destination Thursday to accompany its new 24/7 horror-themed cable channel, Chiller.

The site, located at www.horrorfest.chillertv.com, will launch in partnership with Lionsgate Home Entertainment's "After Dark Horrorfest" and its media marketing company Initiative Interactive.

"Horrorfest" is the release of a seven-disc DVD set. Fans who log on to the site will find exclusive scenes and clips from all seven DVDs before they go on sale March 27th.

"This is a great example of a cross-media promotion that leverages both online and on-air in a single custom program," said NBC Universal Cable senior vp emerging networks Dan Harrison.

The sponsorship will include online media and on-air promotion on the channel and website as well as additional promotions on Sci Fi Channel and the USA Network. All promotions will drive users to a custom-built video portal where they can sample exclusive video and other additional content from the films.

"By combining the engaging nature of online media with Chiller and Horrorfest material, viewers will experience horror entertainment on an entirely new interactive level," said Brian Ko, media director, Initiative Interactive.

Chiller, which will be available on DirecTV, will feature exclusive horror and thriller programming from "Twin Peaks," "Tales From the Crypt" and "Hitchcock Presents" to "The Shining," "Psycho" and "The Haunting."

For its part, Lionsgate is also a partner in another horror-themed venture, the multi-platform network FEARnet, a joint venture between Comcast Corp. and Sony Corp.
