NBC Uni's Eck upped to TV Network head

NEW YORK -- NBC Universal said Tuesday that it has named John Eck as president of the NBC TV Network and Media Works.

Eck will continue in charge of information technology, studio operation, film/TV production and postproduction as he has in his role as president of Media Works and chief information officer. He'll add responsibility for NBC affiliate relations and NBC network operations, which had been done by Jay Ireland, former president of NBC Universal Television Stations and Network Operations.

Eck reports to NBC Uni president/CEO Jeff Zucker. He'll work closely with NBC Uni general counsel Rick Cotton to represent NBC on the National Association of Broadcasters.

He was promoted to president of Media Works and chief information officer in July 2005 when the company's Technology and Television and Studio Operations units were merged. Among his other responsibilities are the real estate NBC Uni owns in Rockefeller Center, Burbank and Universal City.

As president of Television and Studio Operations, Eck helped integrate NBC Uni in 2004 with the merger of NBC and Vivendi Universal. He also was been president of NBC broadcast and network operations, senior vp and CFO for NBC International and Business Development. He joined NBC in 1993 as vp financial planning and analysis.
