NBC Universal forms health net

Group of Web sites will distribute videos

NBC Universal said Monday that it is forming the Digital Health Network, a group of Web sites that will distribute health-focused videos produced by the network.

At launch, the network will consist of Healthline Networks and RightHealth, two outside sites, and YourTotalHealth.com, the health section on NBC Uni's iVillage property. The destinations will distribute health-related videos produced by NBC News, NBC Local Media and the company's Healthology.com.

This follows NBC Uni's March formation of its Auto Network, in which it invested $6 million in DriverTV, the centerpiece of that network, for a 35% stake. For the Health Network, though, NBC Uni did not invest in the outside sites; rather, it will partner with them for distribution.

NBC Uni chief digital officer George Kliavkoff said there should be more of the networks in the company's future.

"Our big focus internally this year is launching a suite of digital cable channels, niche networks that are focused on top 10 advertising categories that we believe are significantly underserved for premium professionally produced content on digital platforms, then creating that content or acquiring that content and distributing across those digital platforms," Kliavkoff said.
