NBCU to launch SCI FI HD in Japan

Japan is channel's fourth international market

HONG KONG -- NBC Universal Global Networks will launch its first high definition channel in the Asia Pacific region when it debuts SCI FI HD in October on Japan's SkyPerfect DTH platform.
The move is the fourth international launch of SCI FI HD after France, the U.K. and Portugal.
The basic SCI FI channel was launched in Japan some 18 months ago and is available in some 2.5 million households.
"Out of our four channel brands in the Asia Pacific, including Hallmark Channel, Universal and KidsCo, SCI FI is the natural choice to be our first brand in the region to launch in HD," said Raymund Miranda, NBC Universal Global Networks Asia Pacific managing director.
