NBCUniversal International has launched its subscription video-on-demand service hayu  in Germany and Austria, expanding its availability to 16 markets.

Hayu also offers unscripted programming in such genres as home and design, dating, cooking, crime, and fashion. The majority of U.S. shows are available on hayu the same day as their U.S. broadcast, according to NBCUniversal.

Hayu will be available on Amazon Prime Video Channels via the Prime Video app on a range of devices, with Prime members able to signs up for an add-on subscription that costs €4.99 ($5.93) per month, with a 14-day free trial. (Due to a temporary VAT reduction in Germany, the channel will be priced at €4.86 in the country until the end of the year.)

"We are thrilled to launch hayu – and its world-renowned reality TV content – in Germany and Austria," said Hendrik McDermott, managing director of hayu. "Already the premier destination for must-watch reality TV in 14 markets, hayu is expanding its footprint and building on its successful, multi-territory partnership with Amazon Prime Video Channels bringing the best reality TV to super fans of the genre."

Hayu first launched in the U.K., Ireland and Australia in March 2016, followed by Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark in November 2017. After expanding into Canada in September 2018 and the Benelux countries in December 2018, the most recent territory additions were the Southeast Asian countries of The Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore in October 2019.
