National Board of Review Sets Date for 2017 Awards Gala
NBC's Willie Geist is set to return as host.
The National Board of Review on Monday announced that its awards gala recognizing the organization's picks for the best in film in 2016 will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at the event's longtime venue of Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.
NBC's Willie Geist will return as host for the third year in a row. The organization has yet to announce when it will vote on and announce its 2016 winners, which typically occurs in early December.
The NBR awards are voted on by a select group of knowledgeable film enthusiasts, professionals, academics, young filmmakers and students. The honors have a mixed track record in terms of predicting eventual Oscar nominees.
Last year's best film Mad Max: Fury Road won six Academy Awards, but the prior year's pick A Most Violent Year didn't receive any Oscar nominations, and the organization's 2013 selection Her only won one Oscar.
Other NBR best film winners include Zero Dark Thirty (2012), Hugo (2011) and The Social Network (2010).
