'The Negotiator' in Development with Daro

Daro Film Distributor gets on board 'The Negotiator' from Canadian indie producer White Pines Pictures.

TORONTO – Daro Film Distribution has inked a first-look international distribution deal for The Negotiator, a mini-series about hostage negotiators from Canadian indie producer White Pines Pictures.

The early stage licensing deal gives Daro an inside track on international rights and certain territories for the project being written by Malcolm MacRury (Cra$h & Burn). Michael Wolter, vp of Daro, said the distributor co-financed nearly a dozen TV movies for worldwide distribution last year, and now was branching into an international mini-series with “franchise potential.”

White Pines has been developing The Negotiator as a drama about an elite hostage negotiator working war zones like Mogadishu and Columbia, freeing kidnapped diplomats, journalists and corporate executives.

The project dovetails with White Pine’s earlier CBC drama The Border, based on real life immigration police working the Canada-US border. The Toronto-based producer is also developing an ensemble cop drama set in Niagara Falls for CBS and CTV. The Negotiator is being shopped to international broadcasters at MIP-TV.
