Bretan was Muvico's outside general counsel from 1995-2008 and has been advising the company on a corporate and financial restructuring during the past year. As part of the restructuring, investor Joe Amaturo became sole owner of the company and tapped Bretan as CAO.
Hal Cleveland resigned as CEO in May.
"Longtime friendships often pay off, and in the case of Neil and I, Neil has proved to be an able, trustworthy and talented lawyer, businessman and friend," Amaturo said. "Neil undoubtedly knows more of the history and operational underpinnings of Muvico than anyone else I know."
The circuit operates nine theaters in Florida, Illinois and California. It recently refurbished two of its Florida megaplexes: the Pompano 18 in Pompano Beach and Starlight 20 in Tampa.
