Netflix is in final negotiations to acquire worldwide SVOD rights to Sundance opening-night film Other People. In a separate deal, Vertical Entertainment will give the pic a theatrical release.

Breaking Bad’s Jesse Plemons and Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon star, with supporting turns from Bradley Whitford, Maude Apatow, Zach Woods and June Squibb.

The dramedy follows David (Plemons), a struggling comedy writer who moves back home to care for his recently sick mother (Shannon).

A former staff writer at SNLChris Kelly wrote and directed the film, while Parks and Recreation alum Adam Scott produced along with his wife Naomi, as well as Sam Bisbee.

Other People marks the eighth film picked up by the streaming giant at the festival (Paul Rudd starrer The Fundamentals of Caring was the highest-profile of the group and was the third-biggest deal at Sundance with its nearly $7 million price tag).

The film, which made its world premiere Jan. 21, played in the U.S. Dramatic section of the Sundance Film Festival.

WME repped the filmmakers.
