Netflix tests lower prices

NEW YORK -- Netflix Inc. is testing lower prices for some of its online DVD rental plans with some members, the company said Thursday.

Netflix is offering some members a $15.99 per month price for a plan that lets customers keep as many as three DVDs at a time without limiting how often they can mail them back for another disc. It is also testing a reduced cost of $12.99 for a similar plan that lets users keep two discs at a time with unlimited returns through the mail.

"Netflix is always testing prices. Some members, a small fraction of our total 6.7 million members, have been notified of a lower price on some of their plans. It is not across the board and it was not announced by the company. It is simply a price test," a company spokesman told The Associated Press.
