Netherlands Film Fund may exit Eurimages

AMSTERDAM -- The Netherlands Film Fund is considering quitting its membership of the European co-production fund Eurimages, the body said Thursday.

Toine Berbers, director of the film fund, said the membership has recently had no benefit for the Dutch film industry.

During 2007, Eurimages turned down every request for subsidy by Dutch producers, Berbers stated, yet the Netherlands Film Fund still pays an annual membership fee of €925,000 ($1.3 million).

The move to quit Eurimages is supported by both the Dutch Minister of Culture and the Netherlands Association of Feature Film Producers.

Since 2000, the fund has -- because of the limited support of Eurimages -- lost €4 million on the annual fee, according to the NFF.

Berbers plans to make a final decision on the membership in the summer.

Representatives of the NFF and Eurimages are due to meet in Amsterdam in December to discuss the issue.
