Netherlands no stranger to CD slump

AMSTERDAM -- As sales of DVDs and computer games in the Netherlands enjoy continued growth, the CD market is experiencing an ongoing slump here, according to half-year figures published by industry body the NVPI.

Compared with the same period in 2006, DVD sales in Holland rose €3.5 million ($4.9 million) to a total of €149.1 million ($206.9 million), a 2.4% jump. Sales of computer games did even better, enjoying a 15.5% hike from €96 million in the first half of 2006 to €112 million ($155.4 million) in 2007.

The music CD market continues to decline, however, with sales of albums, singles and music videos falling by 10.1%, 34.6% and 20.5% respectively over the period.
