Networking sites in spotlight at MIPTV


PARIS -- The 45th annual MIPTV has locked in keynote speakers representing MySpace, BEBO and Creative Commons for an April 10 focus on social networking, organizers Reed MIDEM said Thursday.

International managing director of MySpace/Fox Interactive Media Travis Katz, BEBO president Joanna Shields and Creative Commons chairman Joi Ito will share their vision of entertainment and content-sharing across different platforms.

Katz will discuss the evolution of social networking on the Internet and the opportunities available to content creators and brands in that field. MySpace currently boasts 28 localized versions of its Web site across the globe, available in 14 languages.

Shields, whose BEBO provides interactive Web content throughsuch online series such as KateModem and Sophia's Diary, will talk about such new formats and their impact on consumer behavior.

Ito will promote Creative Commons' alternative system for rights protection and defend the company's new vision of downloading and content sharing as a win-win situation.

The focus on social networking at MIPTV also will include two panels, one highlighting marketing and advertising and the other creativity and new content formats. This year's MIPTV will kick off in Cannes on April 7.
