New incentives on Italy horizon

ROME -- Italy's much heralded entertainment initiative -- which government officials say will contain millions in tax incentives for the production, promotion, and distribution of Italian films -- is scheduled to become law by the end of the summer, according to statements released Tuesday by the Ministry of Culture.

According to information published in the official state newspaper, the Gazzetta Ufficiale, the total package will be worth some €220 million ($299 million), to be divided between projects aimed at films, television, music, and drama. Debate on the measure is expected to start in the Italian parliament before the end of May.
