New York Fashion Week Spring 2013: Ralph Lauren Opens Week With Fall and Holiday Show for Girls

"Mad Men's" Kiernan Shipka is the first star at the week's first show.

Designers in New York this week are showing spring 2013 collections, which, though they may not be in the stores until February or March at least, they'll inspire trends immediately, and celebs will be wearing them before you can blink your eyes. Definitely by Emmy week.

But there's still a tiny bit of fall in the air -- Ralph Lauren, in advance of his spring show next week, showed his collection for girls, inviting future style icons with front-row views to see 46 looks they'll want to wear back to school and to holiday parties this Christmas.

It's been a trend for quite a while for designers to make both teen lines and even children's lines -- mini versions of adult clothes that look so adorable in small versions, they could make anyone, even the childless, melt. So could their prices, FYI: Less fabric doesn't necessarily mean less pricetag.

A number of celebs turned up -- and they weren't all girls -- Lisa Immordino Vreeland, the much lauded of late director-producer of the new doc Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel (opening Sept. 21) was on hand, along with Ali Wentworth (actress wife of George Stephanopoulos, New York society woman Susan Fales-Hill, Hollywood stylist June Ambrose and. of course, the well-dressed (both off and on the screen) Sally Draper herself, Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka, who is turning out to be quite a fashion-knowing teen.

To attend the show at Lauren's studio and offices at 650 Madison Ave., she donned a one of the designer's children's military jacket, his children's stretch skinny velvet cargo pant, a children's pin-tucked tuxedo short and Ralph Lauren Vintage Collection faux-pearl drop earring circa 1970 -- how Mad Men is that? (It's not quite up to the '70s yet, though).
