New Yorker votes for Sanjaya on CNBC
EmptyNEW YORK -- CNBC reporter Mary Thompson on Tuesday was reporting live about Citibank on the financial news channel in front of Carnegie Hall on West 57th Street when an unidentified man with a cap came up and shouted the name of Sanjaya Malakar, the "American Idol" contestant who has kept making the cut and is the subject of an on-air campaign by Sirius Satellite Radio host Howard Stern.
"Is this about Sanjaya?" the man asked Thompson on-camera. Thompson said no, whereby the man said he was going to vote for him on the Fox reality show.
Another staffer pulled the man away, and the network switched back to the CNBC's studio in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. Anchor Sue Herera said that Thompson is a New Yorker and knows how to handle situations like that.
